How Does it Work?
Basilisk Self-Healing Concrete, developed at Delft University of Technology, features an autonomous repair system using limestone-producing bacteria. When these bacteria come into contact with oxygen and water, they convert nutrients into calcium carbonate (limestone), filling cracks in the concrete. This process helps maintain the concrete's waterproof properties and can repeat automatically over time, eliminating the need for manual repairs or crack maintenance.
